Cross the winter Great Khingan forests with rime and snow plains; reach the Sino-Russian border town Shiwei, experience a winter mukeleng stay and the quiet border winter. Stay in Shiwei.
Drive along the Sino-Russian border road through the snow, photograph the frozen border river; arrive at Heishantou in the evening for optional snow horse riding and snowy grassland sunset. Stay in Heishantou yurt/guesthouse.
Travel along the snowy border highway, enjoying winter grassland and border scenery; arrive at the fairy-tale border city Manzhouli, visit Matryoshka Square and the ice-and-snow night view. Stay in Manzhouli.
Visit the National Gate Scenic Area in the morning and experience the city's Russian charm, then return to Hailar for airport/train transfer, ending the Cold Pole ice and snow tour.
